CONSIDERATIONS WHEN CHOOSING A FUNERAL HOME:

 1.  Estimate attendance.  Make sure you have a good estimate before you choose the funeral home and reception site so that the facility will be large enough to accommodate your gathering.

2.  Location.  Pick a funeral home in a location convenient for family to gather or close to the place of  burial. 

3.  Compare, compare, compare.   Take the time and make some phone calls.  Some things to consider:

-          Is there enough parking?

-          Is the location large enough to accommodate all your guests?

-          Is there a sound and/or video system for playing CD’s or videos? And

-          Can you play music or show videos?

-          Can they accommodate all the time you will need?

-          Are there private areas for mourners?

-          Do they allow or supply food or beverages or catering?

-          Is alcohol permitted?

-          Are there enough seats for the guests?

4.  Price.  Prices can vary greatly.  It is best to call around and compare prices.  You do not have to give out any personal information to request this.  It is best if you can get it in writing and find out detail by detail what is included.  Don’t assume the quoted price includes everything.

5.  Religion.    Some funeral homes cater to specific religious groups.  If uncertain, ask to make sure your religious preferences can and will be followed.

6.  Ask Around.  Word of mouth is usually best, but now with technology, most funeral homes can be looked up on the internet and if there are any written reviews or comments, you can see them there.

7.  Gut instinct.  If you have chosen a funeral home and visited or called and felt good about it and comfortable about your questions being answered, chances are your instincts are letting you know.  If something  just doesn’t’ “feel right”, we suggest you look further.
